Recording the “Strange Situation” Song

Thought you might like to know how The Strange Situation records its songs. Here is how the song “Strange Situation” was recorded and produced by lil’d at O-WOW Studios in San Francisco.

The beat was created by lil’d on an Akai MPC X. Two synths are on the song. Wayland Bell plays an Arturia MatrixBrute. Sean Bell plays an Alesis Micron.

On the guitar tracks, lil’d plays a Gibson Firebird Zero. One track is recorded through a Fractal Ultra Processor modeling a Diesel amp, all other tracks are recorded through a Bugera T-5 Infinium Amp set at 1 watt. Effect pedals used are an Ibanez Tube Screamer, a RAT distortion and a Dunlop wah. A goal was to have the guitars sound like police and ambulance sirens.

All tracks are recorded direct into an Akai DPS 24, then bounced to and mixed in ProTools. lil’d’s vocals are recorded direct into ProTools using a vintage Neumann U87 microphone. The song is mixed by lil’d at O-WOW Studios, then mastered by Justin Weis at Trakworx Mastering in San Francisco.

Viola! The song “Strange Situation” by the music band The Strange Situation. It’s a strange situation in San Francisco and this country, for sure. Wanted to convey that feeling and reality in this song.
